Good article. Didn't know anything about the guy. Certainly an interesting individual. But can someone explain to me what the "gay agenda" is? Other than the push for marriage?

"But can someone explain to me what the "gay agenda" is?"
Its a strawman set up by social conservatives to increase voter turnout among homophobes.
Warren | June 13, 2007, 3:58pm | #
Dylan,The gay agenda, nowhere written down, is the shared goal of every homosexual to turn every teenage boy in America gay, by touting the wanton pleasures of sucking cock.

"I think Lewis Black put it best when he said that gays want to break into your house, stand in front of your children, and start butt-fucking each other."Er. I think that begs the question. How does Lewis Black know that? His answer,... come on someone had to ask him and he had to give some answer.
Wow, the things you learn at the Reason website.

I've heard Rush Limbaugh throw the phrase around whenever some wingnut homosexual goes to far, like attempting to hold a "gay day" in a middle school so every kid knows what it is like to be gay."You see? This what the gays want, they want to impress their insane idological agenda onto the heartland of America not to mention legalizinggaymarriage."

I was thinking to myself how, living in a world with Degrassi: TNG, the Disney Channel, High School; The Musical, American Idol, Ugly Betty and Spring Awakening, that television looooves 13-year-old gay boys.pgt | June 13, 2007, 5:56pm | #
Two baby doctors. To my knowledge, there are two members of Congress, one in the House and one in the Senate, whose pre-Congressional profession was Ob/Gyn.
Ron Paul and Tom Coburn.
Are there any others? What do libertarians or anyone else make of this? Just coincidence?

Au standard: just like married heteros get to do?David Weigel: good article, but I'm not impressed by Coburn. His "principles" appear to be emotionally motivated by his annoyance with the government. Did noone tell him he didn't have to accept Medicare or insurance?
I'd rather see the government run on rationally derived principles, but Coburn's emotional economic frugality will work until that day arrives. (I'm just trying to be pragmatic.)

Coburn is one of a handful of barely acceptable creatures among the horde of incompetent, elitist monsters otherwise known as Congress. That this man, with his bewildering mix of liberal and illiberal inclinations, can be considered something of a hero is testament to the abject leadership this country has elected.I am beginning to mentally wander into strange, but perhaps inevitably reached territory for a libertarian: we need a Second Revolution. Anything short of a comprehensive overhaul of the way we are governed will not suffice for change, as the rot is now thoroughly pervasive, and the lawlessness of our lawmakers is such that they view reason as a fallacious annoyance. We can parse through the subtleties of government and society here, but unless a truly radical separation from this filthy whoredom of a leadership is realized, the people will be subject to further indignities and loss of freedom, and mediocre talents like Coburn will soon be revered as demigods of liberty.

"I am beginning to mentally wander into strange, but perhaps inevitably reached territory for a libertarian: we need a Second Revolution."Not strange at all. I have been calling for a revolution for a two years, and many, some on this site too, have been calling for one longer then that.
Welcome Spook of Wisdom, you have seen the light.

"I am beginning to mentally wander into strange, but perhaps inevitably reached territory for a libertarian: we need a Second Revolution."I must agree with this for exactly the same reasons you said. Most lawmakers seem to be doing everything they can to bring about a Second Revolution.

Fixed that.

Every Fourth of July we have a Patriotic Singalong here in Kerrville. My part is to read the Declaration of Independence. As I work through the list of grievances the Colonies had against Britain I keep getting "but our government is doing those things to us today" looks.

Not to niggle, but he isn't an ob/gyn. He's a family physician who provides obstetric services, a fairly common combo in Oklahoma.I support his economic crusade, but he's really a scary theocrat. I can guarantee that everyone here who is not born again would not be able to tolerate his ideas of how society should run.

Social rulings can always be overturned, but economic policy sticks with us for decades. I'm proud that we have Sen. Coburn representing my state, even if most of his actions make me want to vomit.
